Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe is a member of the 1% club and donates 1% of its pre-tax profits toward Corporate Social Responsibility projects every year. The Bank has over the years identified education, health, social welfare and entrepreneurship as its focus areas, and these areas remained the same in 2007.

Junior Achievement Zimbabwe -

The Barclays Company Programme, run in partnership with Junior Achievement Zimbabwe, was launched in February 2007. Barclays sponsored 13 schools in which 900 ‘A’ level students benefited from the 4-6 months entrepreneurial training programme. Students start up a company and liquidate it at the end of the programme thus learning business fundamentals at an early stage.  As part of the reward to the winning school, Barclays run a Job Shadow day where the students spend a day with Barclays Senior management, shadowing them as they go through their normal work day.   Barclays invested £10,000 in this programme.

Barclays Step Ahead

Barclays Step Ahead initiative was a charity walk initiative where all the funds raised during the six walks held in Zimbabwe contributed to a combined 72 400 km and raised £5,333 towards assisting local communities. 15 institutions across the country benefited from the funds raised during Step Ahead. These included children’s homes, homes for the physically challenged, homes for the elderly amongst others.
